The Parrhesia Institute has as its aim to promote and channel fruitful exchanges and collaborations between the Middle East, Europe and the United States. Beyond dogmatic frontiers, The Parrhesia Institute seeks to harness affinities, contributions, relationships and points of convergence between various philosophical, theosophical and literary traditions from the Middle East and the West. Through innovative and thought-provoking series of research events and publications, The Parrhesia Institute brings together international scholars, artists and research students to promote interdisciplinary studies, cross cultural inquiries, and cultural/visual theories. Reading and reaching across geographical and disciplinary boundaries, the intrinsic mission of The Parrhesia Institute is to foster rich and intellectually stimulating dialogues through research seminars, lectures, creative events, exhibitions, and conferences.
Whilst encouraging and enhancing communication, understanding and collaboration between scholars, The Parrhesia Institute aims at interrogating/uncovering the specific synergies at work in the East/West dialectic, connection and circulation. Undertaking close/creative readings of texts as well as visual artefacts, the Institute offers unique insights into broader issues engaging the valency of cultural and religious identity, nation, and/or individuality. The variety of methodologies reflects an interdisciplinary and creative/alternative approach where methods and insights of multiple disciplines develop a better understanding of the Humanities at large in conjunction with the multivalent and yet dynamic complexities between the East and West traditions.
